Fire Reinstatement Project

Case Study project comprises of the challenging reinstatement and retail refurbishment of a badly fire damaged Footlocker Store in the centre of Brixton, South London. The building was later re-rented by the client to O2 and the refurbished store was re-fitted by O2 following installation of the new shopfront.

The building is located on a very busy high street junction, adjacent to the London Underground and had been extensively damaged by fire following the July 2011 riots.  The building consisted of a basement, ground and 2 further floors.

The works included the systematical removal and replacement of the existing structural concrete floors, whilst maintaining stability of the building.  The full refurbishment of the external envelope followed.

Access was heavily restricted due to the location being adjacent to a 'Red Route' with no compound available and great care and planning was required by our management team to ensure no disruption to the highway and/or general public during the building project. Deliveries were scheduled prior to 6am on a daily basis, which was the only way of gaining access and managing the associated health and safety risks.

The programme was also extremely tight and Christmas opening deadline was paramount, the dedication and efficiency of our project team ensured completion by our clients deadline and ensured O2 were able to open their new store as intended.
