Main Entrance and Gymnasium Extensions, Major re-modelling and Refurbishment Project

Case Study project comprises of the phased extension and refurbishment to multiple areas within thr Colchester Leisure World, leisure centre facility in Colchester, Essex.

It was neccessary for a temporary reception desk to be set-up prior to commencement of all phases to allow the public to be directed away from the construction areas. The initial phase consisted of the conversion of the centres existing bar/restaurant and events space to create an open plan multi-use and dance studio to the first floor.

The subsequent phase required for the structural alteration and full refurbishment of an existing gymnasium to facilitate a much larger gym. The gym was later fitted out with state-of-the-art gym equipment and provides the centre with a very modern and well equipped facility, which comfortably satisfies the demands of their customers. The timely completion of this particular phase was essential to our client to ensure continuity and expansion of their gym and has been very well received by the general public with a significant increase in gym memberships following its re-opening.

The following phases involved extensive propping and structural remodelling of the existing reception and the surrounding concourse areas together with the conversion of two existing squash courts into new offices. Alongside this, a modern entrance extension was also constructed to accommodate a spacious coffee shop facility.

Finally, the conversion and refurbishment of a separate retail unit alongside the Charter Hall Events lobby was completed to a fast-track programme to allow occupation by a third party company by an agreed date allowing trading to commence alongside the opening of the new entrance.
